Did you know that January is Alzheimer's Awareness Month in Canada? It is estimated that over half a million Canadians live with dementia -a condition characterized as the loss of cognitive functioning (thinking, remembering, reasoning, etc.) to the extent that it has a considerable impact on one's day-to-day life and activities.
Dementia becomes more common amongst elderly people; however younger people are at risk also. Dementia is not a normal part of the aging process, and there are steps you can take to lessen the risk.
