Amherstburg Freedom Museum: previously known as 'the North American Black Historical Museum,' Amherstburg Freedom Museum is located in Amherstburg, Ontario. Amherstburg is a short 40-minute drive from Detroit, Michigan, US. While Michigan was a "free territory and state," many would cross the Detroit River to seek refuge in Canada and to be out of reach of the US Fugitive Slave Acts.
-
Buxton National Historic Site & Museum: located in Merlin, Ontario, Buxton National Historic Site & Museum is a tribute to the Elgin Settlement that was established in 1849 by abolitionist Rev. William King. Buxton Settlement was the final stop for many on the Underground Railroad.
-
Uncle Tom's Cabin Historical Site: located in Dresden, Ontario, the museum documents the life of Josiah Henson and the Underground Railroad. It is located on the grounds of the former Dawn settlement that Henson set up after he and his family escaped slavery in Kentucky and made it to Canada.
